Five stars for the Super 8 at O'Hare because when assessed honestly against what an airport layover hotel is supposed to accomplish, this property cleared every variable.

Let me establish the grading frame. An airport layover hotel has three jobs: the room is clean and functional, the parking is secure or the shuttle is dependable, and the check-in and check-out process is fast enough that you are not losing sleep time to paperwork and waiting. A fourth variable applies when traveling with family: the space is adequate for the number of people in the room without creating the kind of cramped chaos that degrades everyone's rest and puts you on an early morning flight in a worse condition than you were the night before.

At the Super 8 on Touhy Avenue in Elk Grove Village, all of these cleared. The room was clean. The shuttle ran on schedule, which in the context of O'Hare traffic and the timing requirements of early morning departures is genuinely an operational achievement that a lot of airport properties fail at regularly. The check-in staff processed us quickly without the friction that builds when the system and the process are fighting each other.

The category ceiling is what it is. A Super 8 near O'Hare is not competing with the Hyatt at the terminal or the boutique hotels in River North. It is not trying to, and penalizing it for the gap between those categories is a category error in reviewing. What this property is doing, and doing correctly, is providing a clean, functional, accessible overnight stop for travelers who need to be at O'Hare at a time that does not support driving from wherever they came from.

I've stayed at enough airport properties across enough airports to know that two out of three of the core variables clearing is actually the more common result. The shuttle is late, or the room has had insufficient attention from housekeeping, or the parking situation is more complicated than the website implies. At this O'Hare Super 8, all three cleared. The rating reflects that straightforward performance against the actual standard the property is competing at.

Five stars in context. The context is an airport layover on a trip that required early morning departure from a Chicago-area hub. In that context, this property delivered. That is what the rating documents.
