Plymouth Meeting Mall is what a functioning mid-century suburban mall looks like when it has managed the transition better than most. The anchor situation is different than it was, but the mall is not dying: it's running a different model. Occupied storefronts, two-directional foot traffic on a weekday, a calibrated mix of national chains and regional operators that suggests active leasing rather than crisis management.
We came through in August 2020, which was its own context, and the mall was handling its reduced capacity with more composure than the surrounding area might have suggested. The layout is straightforward. The parking works. The Whole Foods adjacent creates a useful gravity.
Five stars for a suburban mall that has earned its stars by staying functional and occupied. That's not a low bar anymore.
