Unassuming outside on scenic highway,once you are inside its spacious with a great crowd. Jukebox was fun, bartender is super attentive and the basic bar food is made correct and quickly. Hidden gem, I probably should have kept to myself!
Unassuming outside on the Route 20 approach through Lafayette. That's the honest description. You drive past it and the outside doesn't announce itself — which is part of what makes the inside a surprise. Once you're in, it's spacious, the crowd is good, and the jukebox is operational and actually being used.
Food, service, and atmosphere all at five. Bar food made correctly and quickly is what you want from a pub of this type and Knoxie's delivers it without overcomplicating anything. The bartender watches the room, refreshes drinks without making you signal, and manages the bar with the attentiveness that makes a neighborhood pub feel like a neighborhood pub rather than a place where you're just a transaction.
Hidden gem. I probably should have kept it to myself. That's how it felt at the time and that feeling was accurate — this is the kind of place that works specifically because it doesn't have a social media footprint proportional to its quality. Route 20 through Lafayette is scenic in the way that rural Onondaga County roads are scenic on a good evening. Getting off the highway and taking 20 through the valley instead of staying on 81 is always the right call, and Knoxie's is the reason the detour has an endpoint. Pratts Falls is three miles away if you need a reason to be coming from the east.
