Darling Hill Observatory is on Strong Road in Tully, which is not an address that announces itself from any main road, and that obscurity is part of what makes the place worth knowing about. The Onondaga Astronomical Association operates the facility, and it's one of the dark-sky resources available to non-members and to school and community groups in the CNY region.

I've been here on several occasions over the years, both as part of organized events and independently. The hill position gives you the horizon clearance that the surrounding forested terrain doesn't always allow, and the Tully valley below provides a useful dark eastern horizon when the atmospheric conditions cooperate. Tully is close enough to Syracuse that the western sky carries the metro light dome, but the eastern and southern exposures are substantially better than the city-adjacent sites.

Five stars for a community astronomical resource that operates on volunteer commitment and provides something genuinely educational and spectacular when the conditions cooperate. The hill in the Tully landscape earns its position on any serious CNY astronomy itinerary. Check the Association's schedule before making the trip; viewing events are the right conditions for the best version of this place.
