Staff was super helpful on Christmas Eve
Byrne Dairy and Deli is one of the last regionally-owned dairy and convenience chains operating at any real scale in upstate New York, and the Liverpool location on Old Liverpool Road is a working example of what that means in practice: ice cream made from actual Byrne milk, a deli counter that runs sandwiches across a menu deeper than the footprint suggests, and staff who were, on a Christmas Eve visit, genuinely helpful when helpful was harder to come by.
The ice cream is the reason most people stop, and it earns that. The flavors are regional, seasonal where possible, and made from the dairy operation that the whole chain runs on. Coming from a food background, I pay attention to that kind of vertical coherence. It is rarer than it looks.
Five stars. Supporting a regional dairy chain is a vote for what the upstate food economy should be. This location staffed it correctly on a holiday when lesser operations thin out and coast.
