Three stars. Applebee's does what Applebee's does, which is provide a predictable meal in a predictable room at a predictable price, and the Cortland location on Route 13 executes that formula without degrading it. The bar gets sports and the drinks come out in the time the brand has calibrated them to come out in. The food is produced at chain consistency. Nothing surprises you.
This one is on the same day's trail as the Spectrum Store and the round trip between them suggests a specific kind of February afternoon errand circuit that ends at Applebee's for the same reason a lot of Cortland afternoons end at Applebee's: it's there, it's familiar, and the alternative requires more decision-making energy than anyone had left by that point.
Three stars is the honest score. Fine for what it is. Not what Cortland has to offer when you've got Prandium and Los Lagos downtown and Pontillo's up the road. But three stars means it clears the floor and sometimes that's the requirement.
