Imagine a wheel turning and turning, and on that wheel are all beings, trapped in the endless round of birth and death. They are bound to this wheel by the chains of their karma, their negative actions and afflictions. As the wheel turns, they experience all kinds of suffering: the pain of birth, the sorrow of old age, the anguish of sickness, and the fear of death. They are also subject to the six realms of existence: the realms of gods, demigods, humans, animals, hungry ghosts, and hell beings. Each realm has its own unique set of pleasures and pains, but none offer true and lasting happiness."
